Hungry

Approximately 925 million people (13% or 1 in 7 people) do not have enough food to eat—that is, not enough calories and protein to sustain their bodies.  6.5 million children die every year due to malnutrition and/or hunger–related diseases.  The world produces enough food to provide every person in the world with 2,720 calories/day, but many lack the resources to access this food.

In 2010, approximately 6.7 million households in the US (5% or 1 in 20 people) experienced “very low food security”—that is, normal food intake was reduced/disrupted at times during the year because the household lacked resources to obtain food.
